  6. For those too young to remember Hou Jia Chang was chief coach during the period 1983 or abouts up to 1992 producing exciting players like Yang Yang, Zhao Jian Hua, Li Ling Wei, Han Ai Ping, Li Yong Bo and Tian Bing Yi.
I wouldn't call David exciting though, most players today play like him.

  7. Li Mao's words rang true after Indonesia's juniors thrashed the Malaysian Tigers in the group stages of the Axiata Cup on 25/03/12 in Kuala Lumpur.

  8. A lot of people have attributed Lee Chong Wei's success to his coaches and trainers such as his boyhood coach, his physical trainer, even Misbun Sidek for political reasons.I disagree, and feel that the biggest single success factor is himself,ie.dedication and discipline. No doubt all of his mentors had contributed to some extent to his continued success but to me the strongest influence must have come from Li Mao.I say this because he seems to expound the values of what Li Mao emphasises most and this is reflected in his economical and efficient footwork,court-craft and racquet skills enabling him to outlast and out-rally most opponents. His play is really quite similar to that of Han Jian and he does not have the versatile and deadly strokes of say Lin Dan or Zhao Jian Hua but he rarely wastes his energy and knows best how to sustain it like long distance runners or swimmers.LCW must also be a prime example of what Sports Science can do for badminton.

  9. Poor LCW is showing his age.All those taxing tourneys are taking their toll on his 30 year old body in the form of shoulder injury, flu, fever and now a twisted ankle. Those signs were already there long ago in Lin Dan,Cai Yun,Koo KK, Taufik and Gade and the difference is that the others know their limits and to stay clear of injury for long term goals.

  10. What has not become clearly visible is the rise of the Indonesian women's Uber Cup team with many new faces. Many of the unknowns have done what previous teams have not done ,made
China and Denmark sweat and tremble in their encounters. Even established players like Wang Yi Han,Wang Shi Xian,China's top ladies doubles,Eriko Hirose were all given a hard time.Looks as if Li Mao and Wong Tat Meng are getting results from this area.

  11. No one says it better than Lin Dan,one who knows how to take care of his body and avoid injury.

  12. After 1 year of his 2 year contract Li Mao returns to China. His efforts after 1 year are evident especially in the ladies department. Most of the other players not too old or stubborn to learn new tricks are finding it easier to play with more economy of movement.Li Mao's departure is mainly caused by criticism from Ina's veteran players that their own people can do a better job,we will see.
The same scenario surfaced several years ago in Malaysia where there was dispute as to the benefits of hiring foreign coaches like Yoo Yeoong Sung,Park Joo Bong,Li Mao, etc. eventually settling for locals and "brudder" Indonesians.
Coaches thinking of working in Malaysia and Indonesia have to be prepared to put up with this kind of nonsense involving politics and tribal loyalties etc.and erratic Clients forever prey to their pressure groups and irrational fans.
